When the Germans attacked, the men of the 1111th Engineer Group were the backstop of the American lines. Once through the 106th and 99th Infantry Divisions, the Germans ran head-long into the many engineer roadblocks.

The combat engineers of the 1111th Engineer Combat Group found themselves to be the only thing standing between SS-Kampfgruppe Peiper and the Meuse River. To help man the defences, Colonel Pergrin’s 291st Combat Engineers shifted all of A Company’s bazookas to Malmédy to add more anti-tank capability to the anti-tank guns acquired from retreating infantry.

The Engineer Support Platoon provides the heavy lifting that an Engineer Combat Platoon requires with three 2 ½-ton dump trucks, one pioneer supply 2 ½-ton truck, and one D7 bulldozer.
