Artillery Command

With the artillery headquarters co-ordinating their fire, the gunners of the Italian Artillery were regarded as some of the best troops in the Army.

Contains: 8 Officers, 2 NCOs, 2 Riflemen, 2 Artillerymen, 2 Radio Operators, 2 Observers, 2 Stools, 2 tables, 4 small and 2 medium bases.

The men of the Italian Artillery Arm were often equipped with old, but serviceable, weapons. But what they lacked in technology they more than made up for with bravery and professionalism.

In one encounter during Operation COMPASS in 1940 G. R. Stevens in his history of 4th Indian Division wrote, "Italian artillerymen gallantly swung their pieces on to the advancing monsters. They fought until return fire from the British tanks stretched them dead or wounded around their limbers. General Maletti, the Italian commander, sprang from his dugout, machine-gun in hand. He fell dead from an answering burst; his son beside him was struck down and captured."

Time and time again the Italian artillerymen fought to the last, acting as the last line of defence when the other Italian troops were over run.

Though their guns are old the Italian artillery staff know them well, they trained before the war with these very same weapons and know how to get the best from them.

In Flames Of War

Like all others the Italian Staff team is the key link between the observers and the battery. Without the staff team the battery can’t repeat ranged in barrages.
