The 80mm 29/38M Anti-aircraft gun designed by Bofors may have been overshadowed by its little brother, the 40mm Bofors Anti-aircraft gun during World War Two. But it’s design took root in the work done in conjunction with Krupp which eventually led to the design of the even more famous gun, the infamous German ‘88’.

"The 80mm 29/38M Anti-aircraft gun is equipped with a Turntable which allows the gun to shoot in all directions i.e. 360º unlike other gun teams which can only shoot in a 180º arc towards their front."

The Model 29 was produced both in a 75mm and 80mm calibre version and was sold to a wide range of countries including Argentina, China, Finland, Greece, Iran and Thailand.

The biggest customer however was the Hungarians, who received the 80mm version. These guns were put into action with the Hungarian Army during the conflict with the Soviet Union between 1941 and 1944.

"The 80mm 29/38M Anti-aircraft gun is rated as a Heavy Anti-aircraft gun; this means the gun is also capable of engaging aircraft. While designed to target the high flying bombers these types of guns are less effective against the faster moving ground-attack aircraft. Therefore, a Heavy Anti-aircraft gun only rolls one die regardless of their ROF rating."
